St. Dominic (in Spanish calles Santo Domingo de Guzmán) is represented in full body and haloed head. With his left hand holding a temple as a sign of founder of an order, the Preachers or Dominicans, and with his right arm, a checkerboard pattern banner, attribute for the colors of the order’s habit. According to the legend, the saint’s mother had a vision while she was expecting him, viewing a mark on the forehead with the form of a star and beside him a dog with a flaming torch in its mouth which would make him company alongside his religious journeys.
