Earl Charles Marshall wrote home to Kansas on August 9, 1918 from France. He reported that he was “feeling as happy as possible under the circumstances.” Less than two months later he was killed in action near Tailly, France. His photograph, among other items, were provided to the Kansas State Historical Society in 1919 as part of an effort to preserve a record of veterans.
Like other U.S. states and regions across the globe, Kansans have served and died in war. The Kansas Museum of History aims to remember them through what they left behind. To see more about Marshall please visit: https://www.kansasmemory.org/item/225099/page/1
