Early Construction of the original East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge

Construction of supportive piers for the eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (that part of the bridge connecting Oakland with Yerba Buena Island) began in 1933. By January 1935, many of the supportive piers were in place and work had begun on the bridge deck.
