Thomas Yeo (1936) graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1960. He then studied in Chelsea School of Art and Hammersmith College of Art and Architecture in London. Since then, Yeo has participated in more than 100 solo and group exhibitions and in 1984, he was awarded the Cultural Medallion. Broad planes of vivid colours dominate in this bold yet effective composition. Landscape and nature are familiar themes in Yeo's oeuvre, and even in abstract paintings like 'Earth Spray', there are references that locate the work in a recognisable reality. A band of blue at the top of the painting marks out the sky, with warm yellows, oranges and reds predominant in the earth. Like many of the artist's works, the painting has a strong centric composition, and the interplay of green, blue, dark brown and orange draws the viewers attention to the centre of the painting.
