The successor to the President Liberator, Edvard Beneš, gave the president’s pre-war Christmas message in Czech and in German on the radio on 24 December 1937. In his type-written copy, he had underlined his belief that, the jubilee year of 1938 “should be and probably will be a year of negotiation, discussion and the conclusion of a number of preliminary agreements securing peace, at least in Europe….”
