Edward Higgins White III

Alek O. began a project during a residency at Helsinki International Artist Programme (HIAP) in 2010 which she continued on her return to London. She began to collect lost gloves on the streets of the city and one by one, unravelled them and embroidered them onto canvas. The result is an abstract composition of rows organised in the chronological order in which the gloves were found. The series title is the name of the first American astronaut to 'walk' in space. On his first walk Edward Higgins White lost one of his thermal gloves.
