Nkusunkusku script, art by Benjamin Rusagara shows drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations, and ceramics, as well as video work that communicates ideas of resilience and strength by Rwandan artist Benjamin Rusagara. Calling a historic way of communicating with a set of drawings, signs, symbols and characters, Rusagara created the “Nkusunkushi” script - symbolizing joint efforts in reconciliation.

In his script, he recalls ancient times what the gray color meant in Rwanda’s culture. The color of gray had a significance in culture, where it is locally known as `Ikijuju`, a color of grieving from ashes. It was also a sign of rebirth, renewal and resurrection. As the word’s meaning is Ivu(kuva) meaning ashes, translated as coming from or state of changing.
