El Agua, Luisa y Coufal

This artwork engages two iconic Guadalajara buildings of the last century: El Teatro Experimental de Jalisco and el Fomento de la Artesanía Jalisco. In the video, a transgender, hearing-impaired person sketches in front of the structures’ famous murals, which allude to transformation of people and place. An ambient soundscape evokes the underground springs that once existed in the area. Together, the imagery and sounds suggest the beauty of past and present, and the importance of honoring change.
