In 1948, Philips came up with a new design for the Philishave, nicknamed the ‘egg’. The shaver has an egg-shaped holder made of ivory-coloured plastic with a single shaving head and built-in electric motor.
To speed up the shaving process this design was updated with a second shaving head in 1951. These are made of very thin tempered steel and have multiple narrow slots for the facial hair to stick through. Later came another improvement: spring-loaded shaving heads.
