Heavily pleated dress from Crete, the border embroidered with alternating scenes of double-headed eagles, flower vases, imaginary birds, gorgons, and foliate decoration. A rare survivor of a type of costume originating in a Western Renaissance style, which was found on all the Aegean islands during the Frankish occupation. 17th-18th c. H. 1.44 m.
