National Palace Museum of Korea

National Palace Museum of Korea
Seoul, South Korea

This pouch was made for the first birthday celebration of Yi Gu, son of the consort of Imperial Prince Yeong. It is made of red flower-patterned silk which has embroidered rock, waves, lotus, elixir of immortality, and mandarin ducks with colored-thread. A border line and longevity symbol designs are also embroidered with gold thread. Two yarns are tied into a tassel, six of which are connected to decorative knots, with an 18K gold turtle, two unicorn-lions, two heavenly peaches, three honeysuckles, and two miniature straw-cutter fasteners attached. In the pouch, there are yellow beans wrapped with yellow mulberry paper.
