“Watching an American police drama show in the early 90’s, I saw for the first time the spiked apparatus pulled across the roadway to slow a car being pursued. I imagined the snake developing the same defence. The link was further complimented, because this is the same ‘armoury’ the modern-day Indigenous person has had to develop in protection from racism, prejudice, ignorance and patronising." Adam Hill was born in Blacktown 1970, studied at Jamisontown High School, before completing his undergraduate degree in Graphic Design at UWS, Nepean Campus in 1994, before Hill started producing artwork under the name Blak Douglas. A multiple Archibald finalist, Blak was awarded the 2022 Archibald Prize for his portrait of artist Karla Dickens, titled Moby Dickens.
