The Endless Summer movie launched in 1964-5 was a pivotal moment in surfing history. It was the first "surf" movie to get widespread cinema release and screened worldwide to appreciative audiences. Surfers became entranced with the idea of surf travel on the back of Bruce Brown's celluloid surfing sojourn, its hokey commentary (by Brown himself), footage that seemed to be shot from the hip and soundtrack going a long way to defining surfing culture of the early 60s. The iconic poster, designed by renowned pop artist John Van Hammersveld has become one of surfing's most copied images.
