Hand-painted chisel engraving representing the map of Calabria (Italy). Framed.
This comes from the "Nuevo Atlas o Teatro del mundo" [New Atlas or Theatre of the World] in four volumes. Published in Spanish in Amsterdam (it was published in different languages in four editions between 1653 and 1666). It was evidently based on the Latin publication of the "Atlas Novus o Theatrum Orbis Terrae", printed by Joan Blaeu in different editions between 1638 and 1658.
The printer Jan Jansson, born in Arnhem, Holland, in 1596, worked in Amsterdam in the middle years of the seventeenth century.
