The painting is part of a series of six depicting the
coronation as Roman King of Joseph, later the Emperor Joseph II, in
Frankfurt.
It shows the ceremonial reception of the emperor and
his son by the electors, the electoral ambassadors, and the city government.
Runners, footmen and "Haiducken" are depicted in front of the
imperial coach. It is flanked by Swiss guards, while the Arcièren guards follow
on horseback.
