From March 31 to April 3, 1848, 574 men gather in St. Paul's Church in Frankfurt to prepare for the election of the National Assembly. The torchlight procession in Frankfurt reflects the enthusiasm for the Pre-Parliament. Luxembourg does not send any delegates, as its political situation differs from that of the German states. Although a member of the German Confederation, the Grand Duchy is ruled in personal union by King William II of the Netherlands and pursues its own political course.
