These shoulder epaulets, reflecting his Brigadier General and Major General ranks, and hat insignia, belonged to Civil War and Indian Wars veteran Oliver Otis Howard. General Howard commanded Vancouver Barracks from 1874-1878, and lived in the house on the west end of the post's Officers' Row in a house that now bears his name.
