The name Morse and the code of the same name became synonymous with telegraphy. His procedure for transmitting text information via a series of pulses (dots and dashes) and the silences between them helped the technology achieve a breakthrough.
The most important components of an electrical telegraph for receiving messages (“sounder”) are an electromagnet, an armature, a mechanical clockwork to move the paper tape, a coloured stylus and a roll of paper.
