Considered to be the most venomous of fishes, a sting from the Estaurine Stonefish (Synanceia horrida) can be agonising. Their robust dorsal-fin spines are grooved and have a venom gland at the base. They are superbly camouflaged to match their surroundings and can be extremely difficult to see.
