These evening shoes, with their embroidered covered toe, ankle strap and heels, are typical of the 1920s. As the fashion for shorter hemlines on dresses developed, beautiful shoes like these were a more visible part of an outfit . The design has been embroidered in silk, edged with silver leather, and the buttonhole fastenings on the straps are sewn by hand.
Francois Pinet started designing shoes in 1854. He became one of the most fashionable shoemakers in Paris. His company still exists, and according to their company history, he was known for designing and patenting the Bobine heel, a stronger, thinner, lighter, and more stable heel for ladies' shoes. It allowed more freedom of movement than the thicker traditional shaped heel at the time and was extremely popular. Pinet came to London in 1905 and opened a flagship store in New Bond Street, London.
