Evergreen Garden at Wrest Park

United Kingdom

The Evergreen Garden, shown here in around 1906, was the last part of the garden to be designed by Thomas, 2nd Earl de Grey in 1857, just two years before he died. The garden consisted of four large hedged beds planted in the centre with flowering shrubs such as rhododendrons and azaleas, with a statue group known as the Hawking Party in the centre. In 1935 the beds were replaced by four Atlas cedars, but these have now been removed and the beds reinstated so that with time the garden will look as Earl de Grey originally intended.
