Excerpt from an interview with Jerzy Jasiński

During the Second World War, a member of the UAS (Union of Armed Struggle, Związek Walki Zbrojnej) then of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa, or AK). Arrested by the Gestapo in April 1943 in Warsaw, sent to Auschwitz then to Buchenwald, Dora, Bergen-Belsen. Liberated by British troops in April 1945, he served in the Guard Campaigns in the American zone of occupation until 1948, when he returned to Poland.
