This extract is from a manuscript recipe book belonging to Elizabeth Bower, a member of the Bower family of Whittington and Dronfield. It states that she 'learnt to cook at the Assembly Rooms with Mrs Hall first day Friday Ap 21st 1837 and the following Rec'pts are what I did & saw'. The first recipes are for "puff paste" and "orange in marmalade". Other recipes include calves' foot jelly and ginger wine.
