'FCS' stands for Fast Crew Supplier, an offshore vessel that was developed by the Damen shipyard between 2004 and 2011 in close collaboration with the Delft University of Technology. Main feature of this type of vessel is the so called 'axe bow'. This type of bow pierces through the waves so even in heavy seas this ship sails much more comfortable than a ship with a conventional bow shape. Production of these kind of offshore working boats made Damen Shipyards, based in the Dutch town of Gorinchem, the main supplier of fast working vessels for the offshore industry worldwide. The 'Esnaad' was built for the Abu Dhabi Oil Company. The origins of the Damen shipyard lie in the Dutch town of Hardinxveld. It started out as a small yard which produced mainly rowing boats. in the sixties of the last century the yard expanded into a company with over 40 employees, but the true revolution started ten years later when Damen decided to built ships on forehand and keep the unfinished ships in stock. This made it possible to shorten building times afterwards and appeared to be a lot more economic. Today Damen has over 10.000 employees worldwide of which some 3.500 in the Neteherlands alone. The model of the FCS 'Esnaad 712' measures (lxwxh) 121 x 35 x 54 cm.
