The poster for the iconic film uses the technique of hand-painting and features the main characters
from the film. The centre stage is taken by the protagonist, Radha/Mother India, played by the
ever-so beautiful Nargis. The image shows an injured Radha, holding a rifle with both her hands,
looking upwards. To her left is a bust-length painting of her husband Shamu, played by Raaj Kumar.
Below Shamu's image is a bust-length image of her younger son Birju, played by Suni Dutt. To
her right in the bottom half is a bust-length image of the character Ramu, her elder son, played by
Rajendra Kumar. The background image shows fire and a woman and possibly a child atop a
horse towards the top left corner of the poster. Below the image of Radha is a logo of the banner
Mehboob Productions Pvt. Ltd. and next to the logo, there is text in Devanagari reading 'Mehboob
Productions', next line; 'Pvt. Ltd. Prastut' (Pvt. Ltd. Presents). Below this text, the film title is
written in Devanagari. Below the film title to the left is the director's name as 'Nirdeshak: Mehboob'
(Director: Mehboob) and to the right is 'Sangeet: Naushad' (Music: Naushad). On the bottom border,
towards the right, the printer's credit is present as 'Kapoor Offset Printers 2296591, 2270156'.
In the top half of the poster, along the right border, the artist's name is written as 'Narayan' in
Devanagari in a vertical orientation.
