Fire salamander, Salamandra salamandra

With its yellow and black ‘wasp pattern’, this slightly over 20 cm-long salamander warns predators of its effective skin poison. It lives in cool and damp beechwood forests. They way it reproduces is unique: the female gives birth to living larvae and drops them off in small river streams.
