Firemen washing the Largo de São Domingos for the Summer festivities (Saint John's Day)

On festive days the street would be thoroughly dressed up. The windows and balconies were decorated with bright banners and crowded with people who spent there the whole day. One of the main concerns was the cleanliness of public areas, with the municipal firemen being in charge of that important task.
