In 1976 Fred and Eileen Whitaker moved into their new home- a 'home with a view.' A gorgeous view: the Pacific Ocean to the right, east San Diego County and mountains to the left, and straight ahead, Mission Bay, downtown San Diego, Point Loma, and on a really clear day, Tijuana. In this 1979 night scene, Eileen captured Mission Bay and off to the left the high-rise buildings of the city. She encompassed these in an oval, almost as though looking though a porthole, with fireworks exploding on high and festive ribbons of color both drifting through the composition and containing the focal points.
