This embroidery commemorates the First World War and features an inset photograph of James Michael Ryan, a South Australian from Edithburgh who was a member of the 43rd Battalion.
Ryan sailed from Adelaide on the HMAT Afric on 9 June 1916. He was wounded in France and was a convalescent in England. Ryan returned to South Australia on the Nestor in June 1919.
