Double sided handbill, printed in the suffragette colours of purple and green, announcing a deputation to Buckingham Palace, on May 21, 1914. A previous deputation in 1910, subsequently referred to as 'Black Friday' had resulted in violent clashes between suffragettes and police. This notice asks supporters to 'Come and see that these violent and brutal attacks on women are not repeated on May 21st'. The organisers' hopes were dashed when the deputation of 21 May again ended in a violent struggle between the suffragettes and the police. More than 60 women were arrested, including Emmeline Pankhurst, who was restrained outside the gates of Buckingham Palace while trying to present a petition to the king.
