Folding screens are mobile separators for living rooms and bedrooms. In keeping with a fashion of the late 18th century and especially the Victorian Age they developed into richly collaged home decorations. The four-panel screen is decorated with pasted-on scrap pictures and images cut out of newspapers and other print media, as well as further commercially bought pictures. The available designs were diverse, but of a stereotypical character. They display flora and fauna, one’s own culture and other lifeworlds. Besides this they also reflect contemporary issues in social and political life. The imprint “Designed in England, Printed in Germany” on a fan-shaped Christmas greeting highlights the globalization of consumer worlds.
