Anonymous, inscriptionless Saxon cross denarii, commonly referred to as "crosses", are divided into 8 basic types. The oldest represent type I (the Małkowice specimen is one of them) and were minted at the mint in Magdeburg from around 950 to around 985. The obverse of this coin shows a chapel with a cross inside, while the reverse features a cross with dots in the corners, surrounded by dashes and circles (pseudo-inscriptions).
