During excavations in the Cathedral Square (Domplatz), 15 fragments of the Gothic tomb of Benedict V were surprisingly discovered. They could be clearly identified on the basis of the copper engraving in Lambeck's book from 1661. The discovery was a stroke of luck as the cenotaph was destroyed in the 18th century and buried in the construction waste of the cathedral. The painted faience tiles show an idealized image of the Pope in life-size on the front panel, surrounded by pictures of saints and equestrians.
