In 1810 Antonie Brentano came to Vienna and met Ludwig van Beethoven. The two became friends and spent some time in the Bohemian spas. Her husband, the merchant Franz Brentano, helped Beethoven out with money.Beethoven thanked him by dedicating some of his works to Franz Brentano - and gave him tips, such as one of the best wineries in Mainz. The painting shows him with his daughters Maximiliane and Josepha.
