Friendship 7 Desk Model NMMC

Senator John Glenn’s personal model of Friendship 7, the Project Mercury space capsule in which he became the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962. The actual capsule was less than seven feet wide.

The red rocket assembly could boost the black space capsule away from a launch accident.

Donated to the National Museum of the Marine Corps by Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.

The Friendship 7 desk model is on display in the Spaceflight: The Marine Astronauts exhibition at the National Museum of the Marine Corps through January 2024.
