The horse stands on four legs: it is stocky, with a rather small head, a prominent chest and well-formed limbs. The wavy tail, forked at the tip, is grafted vertically on the animal’s back. The head has small pointed ears, round embossed eyes and an open mouth. The mane is depicted by wavy incisions on the neck and a triangular forelock between the ears. The body is hollow and has a rectangular hole under the belly. Casting gaps can be seen on the chest, belly and behind the legs.
Bronze horses similar to this one were discovered in 1974 in a tomb in the Dayi district of Sichuan, dating from the period between 75 and 30 BC.
