The Gond tribal community is one of central India's largest indigenous communities and their art is an expression of their everyday quest for life. With a big group of volunteers painting round the clock, this piece dedicated to Gond art took about three weeks to complete.
The artwork deals with the issue of receding natural habitat for animals which is causing an adverse impact on the animals that reside in it. Paying tribute to native Indian art with special emphasis on trees, birds and animals (particularly the elephant, as a symbol of new beginnings), the scale and precision of Rakesh Kumar Memrot’s mural is definitely overwhelming.
