Victorian Gail Couper had this polyurethane foam cored triple stringer Malibu surfboard made by 1964 world surfing champion Midget Farrelly. Similar in design to the board Farrelly had used to win the world championship, the board was made in anticipation of the annual Bells Beach Easter contest. At Bells in 1965 the surf was huge, referred to in magazine articles as the largest ever competition surf seen outside of Hawaii. Gail used the board for some time and to great effect in a remarkable competitive career. Between 1964 and 1980, Gail won the Bells contest 10 times, was Victorian Champion 13 times and Australian Champion five times.
