430 King’s Road, London, was the location of the ever-changing boutique of Malcom McLaren (1946-2010) and Vivienne Westwood (b. 1941). Known as “SEX” from 1974-76 and “Seditionaries” from 1976-80, their shop was highly influential in the punk scene. Among their designs was this unisex “Bondage Suit” with zippers and straps mimicking a straitjacket, and a gauze and vinyl shirt with Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait blinded by the motto: “Good Save the Queen” and silenced by the anarchist band logo: “Sex Pistols.”
