The religious culture of the twelfth century shaped the tree as metaphor to represent human and spiritual genealogies. This painting depicts the Dominican monastic order tree with its main saints organized along the figure of the Madonna of the Rosary. The body of the Virgin is shaped into a vine trunk and from the branches Dominican saints rest and dressed with their corresponding attributes and habit. St. Dominic de Guzman, founder of the Order of Preachers, is lying at the base of the vine, as root and seed of the tree.
