The work of Gianni Berengo Gardin, one of the most important photographers documenting social issues, constitutes a unique recap of half a century of Italian life. His images document moments of everyday life that now belong to the country’s past.
This particular photograph belongs to the series dedicated to the city of Genoa realised in occasion of the "atlante italiano 003" commissioned by the MAXXI to record the changes, processes of transformation and new aesthetic of the Italian landscape. Gardin’s images are apparently simple (though never banal) and devoid of any artifice; they speak of an observation of reality that never abuses life.
