We seek to remember the landscapes and soldiers of World War I. Landscapes once shattered by artillery and divided by trenches now offer memories of battles past and soldiers long buried. Guided by a digital ribbon running through the memorial, visitors pass from battlefield gateways through the woods, the fields, and the fog. The ribbon will lead people through the history, tragedy, and magnitude of the United States is losses during the conflict; displaying newspaper headlines, personal correspondence, and quotations of significance. As the ribbon approaches memorial entrances it will peel from the ground to direct visitors from the mall, White House, and surrounding blocks into the memorial.
