The Nuevo Tolima panel displays a variety of geometric designs. Unlike in Western history, where geometric motifs are attributed to specific creators or inventors, all designs in the Amazonian worldview are gifts from animal or plant "donors." Designs inspired by natural forms are thought to have been passed down from mythological times in this manner. Diamond shapes, for example, resemble snake skin, scrolls resemble jaguar skin markings, and some geometric motifs resemble turtle shell designs.
