Bust of President George Washington (1732-1799), Commander-in-Chief to the Continental Army during the American Revolution and 1st President of the United States. The bust was sculpted after the sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon’s bust of the President in terracotta, created from life. Houdon's bust is now located at Mt. Vernon. This reproduction was created in 1889. On the reverse, there is an inscription verifying the authenticity of this bronze sculpture as a "perfect reproduction" of Houdon's original work.
