“I was born in that green house right there, upstairs (points across the street). No doctors, just a midwife. It’s beautiful here; it’s home, that always counts for something. Right now, I am just sawing some wood, and I will chop it later. I have an oil stove too, but I like wood, it’s a lot warmer. It’s a chore; I pack my chainsaw in a packsack on my back, walk up about a half-mile and get a log off the slope and roll it down hill.” — Gerald Ashenfelter is Inupiaq and lives in White Mountain, Alaska.
When asked if Gerald was Inupiaq. His response was. “I am Inupiaq and I belong to the fuckarewe tribe, because whenever we go way out in the country, we always end up saying where the fuck are we?!” (Laughs).
