A 6.35mm German Ortgies automatic pistol with wood-faced grip with the inlaid medallion of the German Heinrich Ortgies, "HO." The Ortgies maker's mark in several places on the metal, a crown and cross with the letter "N." Inscribed on the underside of the barrel "Germany / 22331." Inscribed on one side of the barrel, "DEUTSCHE WERKE AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT - WERK ERFURT / ORTGIES' PATENT." (Translation: German Works Corporation - Erfurt Work.) Removable metal magazine. Safety on one side. Pistol was taken from a captured German officer and presented to FDR in 1943 by his son Elliott in Tunis. FDR Library Museum Collection, MO 1945.21.9.
