"THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BUILDING OF MODERN ARABIC STYLE"

The Gezirah Palace was designed by the German architect Julius Frantz, who for a period was court architect to the Egyptian Khedive. The style was Italian, which was typical of the period. Most large hotels in Egypt were built in the Italian or French style, with no adaptation to their surroundings. The interiors were executed in a mock “oriental” style to suit the guests' perceived ideas of how they should look.

Julius Frantz said of his own creation that it was “the most beautiful building of modern Arabic style in its category”.
