Gilt blue-and-white coffee pot with Calcutta scene

This is an example of European gilt porcelain originally manufactured in Jingdezhen with underglaze-blue decorations. Although it is not uncommon to find Western scenery on export porcelain, there are relatively few pieces depicting scenes of India. This rare theme may imply that the service was specially commissioned from a Calcutta customer. The applique decorations replace the missing handle.
