It is a deciduous tree up to 35 m native to China, where it lives in a small area of temperate forest in Zhejiang province, although it has been cultivated since ancient times in the East. It is considered a living fossil. It is a dioecious species. The wood is quite hard and resistant to insects, but it is easy to work with.
