Gladiatori al triclinio

This grim moralizing scene completes a cycle that the painter dedicated to ancient themes. As in the artist’s other works of ancient subjects, the reconstruction of the enviroment is subjective and imaginary, but precise in its details. Among these, the helmet of the gladiator in the foreground is an exact copy of a famous example preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
